Y los muebles llegaron...The furniture arrived...

Si, llegaron, pero como llegaron. Despues de casi un mes de retraso y mas precio del convenido, casi todo llego roto!!! Todo sin empaquetar, arañado, sucio y muchas cosas inutilizables...Mañana vienen los del seguro a revisar todo, ya que esto ha sido un poco catastrofico. Les seguiremos informando!! De momento, pasen y vean...Menos mal que hemos intentado arreglar, de forma provisional, algunas cosas para poder vivir, que si no, esta casa pareceria una ruina. De todos modos, seguimos positivos y pensando en otras cosas mas importantes :) Un pequeño disgusto en mitad de otras cosas maravillosas!

They arrived but how they arrived is another issue...After a month of delay and more money than initially agreed, the furniture arrived broken and destroyed...Someone from the insurance company is coming tomorrow to have a look at them since it's been a bit hectic. We'll keep you posted!! For now, you can see the pictures...We've been trying to fix some things provisionally so we can use them and live, otherwise we would still be in an empty house with broken stuff. Anyway, we are still positive and thinking in other nice things that life gives us everyday ;) It was a small stone in the middle of our happy way!

Operacion de polipos entre mudanza, muebles rotos y trabajo nuevo. Polyps surgery among moving, broken furniture and starting a new job

Si, la segunda operacion de polipos en mis 31 años tenia que llegar justo con todo el jaleo de mudanza, limpieza y llevando menos de un mes de trabajo, pero bueno, son cosas que no se puede elegir cuando, te operan y ya esta :)
Los polipos en los senos nasales son un martirio. No es nada de gravedad, pero afectan a tu vida cotidiana hasta un extremo inimaginable. Llevaba años sin oler, sin respirar por la nariz y en algunos momentos, hasta con la nariz hinchada y con los polipos saliendo por la fosa...
Yes, the second nose surgery in my 31 years of life had to happen just while we are moving, cleaning and starting to work, but yeah, you can't really choose when it is going to happen, one day you get a call and an appointment :)
Polyps are not really life threatening but they bother A LOT! They affect your normal life until one gets completely desperate. I wasn't able of smell at all for several years, I couldn't breath though my nose and sometimes the polyps were so big that you could see them coming out of my nose...
Los tratamientos con corticoides son muy agresivos y no se puede abusar de ellos. Ademas, no es una solucion definitiva. La operacion ayuda bastante mas, pero en mi caso, se reproducen como cucarachas y la operacion no me dura ni 5 años...
Hay un tratamiento nuevo con anticuerpos, pero es aun un ensayo clinico y debido a la situacion economica actual en España, no creo que llegue a Castilla - La Mancha en los proximos años. De momento, sigo esperando y por ahora, disfrutare un par de años de una nariz normal, respirar bien, dormir bien y oler!! Todos los que respirais bien, no sabeis que tesoro teneis, los polipos te deprimen y te llegan a molestar tanto que uno se ve impotente ante algo que no es grave.
Corticoid treatments are very aggressive and you can't take these pills or injections regularly. They are not even a long lasting solution. The surgery works a lot better, but in my case, polyps reproduce very rapidly and my nose is really bad after only 5 years...
There is a new treatment based on anitbodies, but it is still a test and due to the big financial crisis in Spain, I don't think we'll have it in my region any time soon. However, I'll keep on waiting and for now, I'll enjoy smelling, breathing and sleeping as a normal person!! Everyone who breaths with no problem doesn't really know what this means, they bother so much...
Mi segunda experiencia ha sido mucho mejor que la primera, la anestesia fue mejor, el despertar sin comparacion (seguro que tiene que ver el hecho de que me sedaron antes de anestesiarme para calmarme los nervios, jeje!) e incluso el tapon nasal se me hacia menos molesto!!
En las fotos hay de todo, mi cara antes de operarme, muerta de nervios, mi cara al salir del quirofano, como un zombi, la cara al dia siguiente, sin fuerza y tomando solo liquidos frios, jeje! Y la final!! Despues de quitarme el tapon, la felicidad hecha realidad!!!! Todos los que sufris de polipos, lo comprendereis :) Un tapon desde la nariz hasta la boca, por el que no entra ni un nanolitro de aire y despues de 48 horas (todo un reto para la paciencia humana), la liberacion!!
My second experience at hospital was a lot better than the first. The anesthesia was better, I woke up incredibly well ( I think the fact that I was injected with something to calm down my nerves before putting me to sleep, helped a lot, hehe!) and even the huge bleeding-containing piece of cotton (or whatever it is) placed in my nose didn't bother so much!!
You can see all kinds of moments in the pictures: before the surgery in a kind of panic attack, after the surgery looking like a zombie, the day after completely exhausted and only having cold liquids, hehe! And finally, the last day after removing the huge tampons from my nose, liberation!! 48 hours of having your nose completely shut down, with not even a nanoliter of air, a real challenge for human patience ;)
Desde aqui, doy las gracias a la doctora que me opero y a todo el mundo que me atendio en el hospital general de Ciudad Real. Espero que la crisis no acabe con estos buenos servicios, aunque una gran parte ya se ha ido al traste.
A partir de ahora, disfrutare de los olores y la comida y seguramente, dentro de poco tiempo haya nuevos adelantos que me ayuden :)
Unas gracias gigantes a mi familia y a Thomas, que haria sin ellos y sin mi madre especialmente??? Los adoro!!
From here I'd like to say thanks to the doctor who did the surgery, for her care and effort and to every single person who took care of me while I was in hospital. I hope the crisis doesn't finish with all these good services, even though a big part of them are already screwed.
From now on I'll enjoy the good aromas of life, food and I'm sure real soon there will be an even better solution for me!
Big thanks to my family and Thomas. What would I do without them and without my mom in particular?? I adore them all!!

ISIS

Hola!! Este edificio es donde trabajamos ahora :) Empezamos el 1 de marzo y se llama Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS) de Estrasburgo (Francia). Fundado por Jean Marie Lehn (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Marie_Lehn), premio Nobel de quimica en 1987 por su investigacion pionera en quimica supramolecular, la parte de la quimica que me apasiona y a la que me dedico!! Es un gran honor andar por aqui y cruzarte con un premio Nobel, lo cierto es que eso no pasa todos los dias!!

Es un centro de excelencia donde 12 grupos de investigacion se concentran para realizar una labor cientifica de primera linea.

Llevamos poco tiempo aqui, Thomas tiene su propio laboratio (http://thomashermans.com/wp/) y yo trabajo como postdoc en el grupo de Luisa de Cola (http://www-isis.u-strasbg.fr/cbs/start).

En estos tiempos dificiles que corren en todo el mundo, al menos tenemos la oportunidad de trabajar en nuestra dificil profesion, para la que hace falta esfuerzo, paciencia, muchisimas horas de trabajo y poquisimas vacaciones. Aunque a veces parece una locura, el mundo de la ciencia es tan apasionante que la recompensa siempre es gigante :) Pronto mas fotos!!

Hi!! This is the building where we work now :) We started the 1st of March and it is called Institut de Science et d'Ingénierie Supramoléculaires (ISIS) of Strasbourg (France). It was funded by the 1987 chemistry Nobel laureate Jean Marie Lehn (http://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jean-Marie_Lehn). He got this award thanks to his pioneering work in supramolecular chemistry, the part of chemistry that I love the most!! It is a great honor working here and seeing pretty often a Nobel laureate walking around. It doesn't happen everyday!!

It is an excellence research center where 13 research groups are concentrated to work in high level investigation topics.

We've been here a very short time. Thomas is the director of his own group (http://thomashermans.com/wp/) and I work as a postdoc in the group of Prof. Luisa De Cola (http://www-isis.u-strasbg.fr/cbs/start).

We are very lucky because we can work in something we really love in these difficult time, especially regarding economy. Research requieres too many hours of work, effort, patient and almost no holidays, but it is so amazing that the reward is huge :) More pics coming soon!!

Apartamento en Estrasburgo. Apartment in Strasbourg

Despues de visitar la ciudad en busca y captura de pisos, nos quedamos con el que veis en las fotos. Debido a la epoca del año (enero), no habia mucha oferta y solo pudimos ver unos seis pisos que reunieran los requisitos que queriamos: una habitacion extra para recibir a nuestra familia y amigos :) y a poder ser un cuarto de baño que no fuese muy viejo.

El que elegimos esta en el centro, es un edificio antiguo, pero esta renovado por dentro y el piso tiene cocina y baño nuevos, asi que era perfecto! Lo unico la superficie, tiene 135 m2 y nos va a quedar un poco grande para los dos, pero asi tenemos mas sitio para las visitas!! Ademas, era el mejor situado, con mas gastos incluidos y con la cocina mas completa, ya que en otros pisos, simplemente no habia cocina!!

Como sabeis que somos muy deportistas, añadiremos el subir y bajar al tercer piso sin ascensor a nuestros entrenamientos de Insanity, Asylum, P90X and Beast Body :)

After visiting the city looking for apartments, we chose the one you see on the pictures. January is a difficult month to find apartments and the offer was not too high, so we could finally see six apartments joining our requirements: an extra room for family and friends ;) and a more or less new bathroom.

Our apartment is really in the center, the buildings are old, but it is renewed and the kitchen and bathroom were just replaced, so it was perfect! It is pretty big for us, 135 m2 so I think it will look kinda empty but we will have enough room for visits!! Furthermore, it was the best located, many things included and the kitchen was very complete, not like other apartments where the kitchen simply didn't exist!!

You know we love exercising and from now on we'll add going up and down the stairs from the 3rd floor to our Insanity, Asylum, P90X and Beast Body workouts ;)

Primer contacto con Estrasburgo. First contact with Strasbourg

Estrasburgo, nuestro nuevo destino. Queda menos de un mes para empezar a trabajar alli y aunque un poco triste por ir a otro pais, tambien con ganas de empezar nuevos proyectos y de continuar con el fascinante y dificil mundo de la investigacion.

Durante el mes de enero pasamos una semana en Estrasburgo buscando piso, arreglando papeles y familiarizandonos con la ciudad.

Aqui dejo algunas fotos de buenos momentos en la ciudad. Mucho mas esta por venir. Ya tenemos piso, asi que aceptamos visitas!!!

Strasbourg is our new destination :) Less than a month to start working there and even though I feel sad to go to another country (different than Spain), I'm also excited to start new projects and continue working on the difficult and great world of research.

We spent a week in Strasbourg last month. We looked for an apartment and arranged several things for our new life there.
