Walking on ice :) Andando sobre hielo :)

Hola! Como sabeis el tiempo por aqui esta fresquito, ya que no subimos de los -6 C, todo ello acompanado de la nieve, que se deshace, luego se hiela, la sal que se echa para que no este todo congelado...en fin! el resultado lo podeis ver en este video. Ayer, al salir del trabajo era casi imposible andar, todo estaba resbaladizo y casi nos cuesta la rotura de una pierna :). Os dejo este video, es muy gracioso!! besos!!
Hi! Weather is pretty cold here as you already know, it is not warmer than -6 C. On top of that there is snow, it melts, then it freezes again, there is salt on the ground making a difficult mixture of stuff...the result is on the movie. This is how we found the pavement on our way back home, everything was slippery and I was really afraid of getting a broken leg :). Here is the movie, hope you laugh! hugs!!

Milwaukee y los puentes de Madison...Milwaukee and the bridges of Madison county

Hola a todos!! Hoy tambien tengo algunas aventuritas que contaros ;). Ayer Thomas termino antes de trabajar y puesto que teniamos unas 3 horas mas de lo habitual en un sabado de trabajo, pensamos en hacer algo. Eso si, pensamos en hacer algo, pero no pensamos mucho...
Decidimos alquilar un zipcar y conducir una hora u hora y media hacia el norte y hacer un poco de senderismo en Wisconsin, el estado siguiente a Illinois yendo hacia el norester. La ciudad mas grande de Wisconsin es Milwaukee y solo esta a 70 millas de Evanston, por lo que decidimos pasar alli la noche y empezar el senderismo a la mañana siguiente :)
El plan parecia muy bonito, por fin algo al aire libre, naturaleza, etc, pero claro! no habiamos pensado en la temperatura que hace por estar tierras en esta epoca del año...
Hi everyone!! Today I have some new adventures to talk about :) Yesterday Thomas could finish earlier and since we had at least 3 more hours free than on a normal working Saturday we thought of doing something. I say "we thought" of doing something, but we really didn't think that much...hehe!
We decided to rent a zipcar and drive one hour or one and a half hours North towards Wisconsin and do some hiking in any of the parks there are in that area. Milwaukee is the biggest city of Wisconsin and it is only 70 miles far from Evanston, so we thought we could spend the night there and do the hiking next morning;)
The plan seemed nice, something outside, nature, etc, but of course, we hadn't thought about the temperature here during the winter...
Cogimos el coche y condujimos alrededor de una hora hasta Milwaukee donde llegamos hasta nuestro hotel. La ciudad estaba desierta, literalmente desierta!! no me lo podia creer, Milwaukee es la ciudad mas grande de Wisconsin y no hay nadie?? en ningun sitio? que pasa??
Dejamos nuestras cosas en el hotel, que era bastante mediocre por cierto, y nos fuimos a cenar a un restaurante de comida americana que estaba bastante cerca.
Una de las cosas que notamos cuando llegamos a Milwaukee es que hacia mas frio que en Evanston, pero considerablemente mas, eso si que es frio y no lo que ha hecho por aqui hasta ahora :)
El restaurante estaba a menos de 10 minutos a pie desde nuestro hotel, pero en ese trayecto que era supuestamente en el centro de la ciudad, no vimos a nadie!! a nadie! y hacia muuuuucho frio!! lo podeis ver en las siguientes fotos :)
We took our car and drove around one hour to Milwaukee where we had booked a hotel. The city was empty, literally empty, I couldn't believe it.
Milwaukee is the biggest city of Wisconsin and there was no one there? no where? que pasa?? We left our stuff in the hotel (it wasn't too nice either) and we went for dinner to a restaurant of American food which was pretty close to the hotel.
When we arrived in Milwaukee we noticed it was really cold, much colder than here in Evanston. That was really cold compared to here! OMG!
The restaurant was less than 10 minutes walking far from our hotel, but we didn't see anyone on our way. We were supposed to be in the city center...downtown! it was soooo freakin' cold and there was no one there!! you can see some pics :)

Llegamos al restaurante, "Kil@wat" y nos gusto mucho, al menos la apariencia. Alli descubrimos que habia un partido muy importante de la superbowl y el equipo de Greenbay (Wisconsin) estaba jugando contra los Falcons de Atlanta. Al parecer, era un partido muy importante y una de las razones por las que no habia nadie en la calle. Por cierto, los de Wisconsin ganaron, asi que el ruido en el restaurante era bastante debido a la celebracion.
Despues de tomar algo en el bar, nos sentamos en nuestra mesa y pedimos nuestro menu. El precio estuvo genial y la comida excelente! menos mal! algo tenia que ser bueno!
Yo tome tacos de tartar de atun de entrante y de segundo carne. Thomas tomo sopa de "fennel" (buscad el significado porque en España no lo tenemos) y luego trucha. El postre tambien fue genial...uhmmm! yo me pedi un "estudio de manzana", que tenia helado de manzana con canela, donuts y tarta de manzana frita, buenisimo! ahi teneis las fotos!
We arrived at the restaurant "Kil@wat" and we liked it a lot at the first glance at least. We discovered there that there was a very important superbowl game between Greenbay (Wisconsin) and the Atlanta Falcons. Apparently this was the main reason why there was no one in the street, apart from the cold...By the way, Wisconsin won so the noise at the restaurant because of the celebration was loud :)
We drank something in the bar and then we went to the dinning room. We order our menus and the food was really awesome. The price was good and the taste great. I took tuna tartar tacos as the starter and meat for the main course. Thomas took fennel soup and rainbow trout. The desert was the best part :). I had "a study of apple" with cinnamon-apple ice-cream, doughnuts and fried apple pie, uhhm! Dinner made my night :) you see here the pictures!

La movida nocturna no era muy prometedora en Milwaukee, asi que nos fuimos al hotel para levantarnos con energia e ir a hacer deporte :). En el hotel hacia frio y la calefaccion subia a razon de 1 grado cada hora...ayy!!
Esta mañana a las 8 ya estabamos en pie y mi mala leche iba en aumento, entre el frio, la cama, que no tenia ganas de pasar mas frio, etc...
Hemos hecho los planes y hemos decidido ir a desayunar y despues conducir media hora mas hasta "Kettle Moraine State forest" en la localidad wisconsina de Oconomowoc.
Hemos ido a un bar de desayunos tipico americano y nos hemos atizado unos desayunos light con un cafe mas que horrible :). Si bien, se me ha arreglado el cuerpo despues de tomarme dos huevos fritos y lo que aqui llaman "tostadas francesas", es decir, el pan frito en mantequilla y luego lo mojas en sirope de arce :)
Todo muy light, pero la mala leche se me ha quitado, jejejejee!!!
Night life was not too promising in Milwaukee so we went back to our hotel to rest and be ready for hiking today in the morning. It was cold in the hotel and the temperature was increasing around 1 degree per hour...agg!!
At 8 am we were already up my mood was not too good. It was cold, the bed was not good and I really didn't feel like being freezing anymore...
We made our plans and we decided to go for breakfast first and then drive 3o more minutes to "Kettle Moraine State forest" for hiking. This place is in Oconomowoc.
We went to a typical American breakfast place and we ate very light breakfast with a horrible cofee :). I have to say that I was feeling a lot better after eating two eggs (sunny side up) and French toast :). Everything light, but my mood changed completely, hehe!!

Con el estomago lleno ya estabamos listos para empezar el senderismo. En una media hora hemos llegado a Oconomowok ;) y hemos entrado en el bosque. Hacia un frio de muerte, madre mia!! el sitio era muy bonito y habia mucha gente esquiando y patinando en lagos que estaban congelados de manera natural.
Hemos elegido una ruta cortita porque hacia mucho frio. Mi cuerpo iba muy bien abrigado con mi super abrigo, pero la piernas se me estaban quemando, jeej!
Hemos andado alrededor de una hora y luego hemos subido a un mirador para ver el parque en casi su totalidad.
Me ha gustado mucho, pero creo que es mejor ir alli con el buen tiempo y hacer una buena ruta. Eso si, el parque es ideal para todos aquellos a los que les gusta los deportes de invierno.
After stuffing ourselves we were ready to start hiking. We arrived in Oconomowok after 30 minutes driving and we entered the forest. It was very, very cold, OMG! the place was beautiful and there were a lot of people skiing and skating on naturally frozen lakes.
We have chosen a short trail because it was too cold. My upper body was warm with my nice coat, but my legs were burning, hehe! We have walked for around one hour and then we have gone up a tower to look at the park from the height.
I very much liked the part, but I think it is better going there when it is warmer so you can do a longer trail. It is really perfect for people who like winter sports though.

Despues de la ruta, hemos conducido un poco mas por el parque antes de pensar el proximo destino. Hemos visto que estabamos bastante cerca de Madison y del condado de Madison...el mismo Madison que el de la pelicula de Maryl Streep y Clint Eastwood "Los puentes de Madison". Eso es al menos, lo que yo pensaba...
En mi ultimo vuelo Madrid-Chicago conoci a una chica de Madison, le pregunte que si conocia los puentes y me dijo que si!! asi que crei que Madison (Wisconsin) era donde se basaba la pelicula, asi que alli nos hemos dirigido.
Despues de una hora conduciendo hemos llegado a Madison y de nuevo, no habia nadie!!! jajajaja! no habia gente y tampoco encontrabamos los puentes...
Nos hemos parado a comer en un sitio que por suerte ha sido muy bueno, excelente comida por 8 dolares :) y luego hemos preguntado por los puentes. Los camareros no habian oido hablar de los puentes...jejejeje!! y yo ya estaba sospechando. He mirado en mi iPhone y he visto "Madison county, Iowa"...ayyy!!! Los puentes de Madison estan en el Madison de Iowa, no en el Madison de Wisconsin...Mi gozo en un pozo!! Despues de ir alli especialmente por los puentes y alli ni habia puentes ni na! Nos hemos dado una vuelta por el pueblo despues de comer y como atraccion principal hemos encontrado una especie de capitolio, lo veis en las fotos.
After the trail we have driven a bit more in the park until we have decided where to go next. We've seen that Madison was not too far and I really wanted to see the bridges of Madison county because I love the movie "The bridges of Madison county" with Maryl Streep and Clint Eastwood. That was what I believed at least...
During my last flight Madrid-Chicago I met a girl from Madison and I asked her about the bridges and the movie, she told me the place was beautiful and the bridges too...Until that moment I thought Madison county was in Wisconsin, so we went there.
We arrived there after one hour driving and again, there was no one there!! we couldn't find people or the bridges...
We stopped for lunch in a very nice place, excellent food for 8 $. We asked the waiters about the bridges and no one knew anything about them...that was suspicious. Then I took my iPhone, typed "the bridges of Madison county" and then, surprise!! The movie is based on the Madison county of Iowan, not the Madison of Wisconsin...ahhh!! It was very funny, driving all the way to Madison to see the bridges and finding the second empty city, which is also the capital of Wisconsin...After that we walked around the place a little bit and we found the capital as the main attraction of the city.

Aunque hacia un frio de mil demonios, el lugar estaba desierto y no hemos encontrado los puentes, la experienca ha sido muy positiva y al final, me lo he pasago genial!!! Besos!!!
Even though it was freezing cold, the place was empty and we didn't find the bridges, the experience was positieve and a good time was had by all. Hugs!!!

Food network y otros programas de TV. Food network and other TV programs

Hola! Hoy me gustaria hablaros de algo que es curioso y sorprendente para mi y que son, algunos programas de television. La tele se parece bastate a la de otros paises (española, holandesa), pero lo que esta claro es que aqui hay una obsesion o fijacion por los programas de cocina y de comida, madre mia! Muchas veces vemos el canal llamado "Food network" y para mi es super divertido, hay programas con titulos tan graciosos como: "Chopped", "The iron chef", "The best thing I've ever eaten...", "Cupcake wars", "Ace of cakes", "Meat and potatoes" o "Worst cooks in America".
Hola! I'd like to talk today about something very curious to me. I'm talking about TV programs :)
TV is pretty similar to the Spanish or Dutch (in general), but something that is very clear to me is that this country is obsessed with cooking programs and food, OMG!
We watch a channel called "Food network" pretty often and it is super funny, they have programs with titles like: "Chopped", "The iron chef", "The best thing I've ever eaten...", "Cupcake wars", "Ace of cakes", "Meat and potatoes" o "Worst cooks in America".

Hay algunos programas que son mas o menos normales y bastante entretenidos, ese es el caso de "Chopped" (troceado). Cuatro personas tienen que preparar un menu con unos ingredientes obligatorios para cada plato. Hay un jurado que prueba lo que han cocinado y va eliminando a los cocineros hasta que solo queda un ganador. Se prepara un entrante con unos ingredientes que los cocineros descubren en el acto, tienen unos 20 minutos para su preparacion y luego el jurado lo prueba y emite su veredicto. En cada plato se va eliminando a un cocinero, hasta que queda un ganador despues del postre. Cada vez que un cocinero es eliminado, el presentador dice "Veamos quien ha sido troceado", asi que si tu eres "troceado" es que has perdido :).
La verdad es que es un programa donde se puede ver la creatividad de cada participante y ademas, se ve la manera de cocinar de cada uno, que tambien muestra algo del caracter de la persona. El ganador se lleva 10.000 $.
There are some programs that are very normal and entertained in my opinion. This is the case of "Chopped". There are four contestants who have to prepare a dish with some ingredients that are mandatory to include. Starting with an appetizer and finishing with dessert, one contestant is eliminated after each dish. There is a jury who tastes the food and decides who is "chopped", if you are "chopped" then you have to leave the contest.
The truth is that you can see how creative people are and also with the way of cooking you can also know a little bit about each contestant's personality. The winner makes 10.000 $.

Algunos programas se mas competitivos como es "Iron chef of America" o "The next iron chef". En este programa participan cocineros muy conocidos de restaurantes de gran reputacion y deben preparar menus muy especiales, a veces con un solo ingrediente. Uno de los programas que mas me gusto fue uno donde habia que preparar un menu de 6 platos donde el ingrediente predominante era el champan. Todo parecia estupendo, unos platos bien decorados, que al parecer sabian muy bien y que al jurado le encantaron.
Some programs are more competitive as for example "Iron chef of America" or "The next iron chef". In this programs there are several very famous chefs and they have to prepare high quality menus, sometimes with only one ingredient. One of the programs I liked the most was when they had to prepare a six course menu using champagne as the main ingredient. Everything looked great, perfectly decorated and apparently they also tasted good according to the jury.

Tambien hay otros programas que son divertidos, pero que en mi opinion muestran cosas exageradas. Esto se ve por ejemplo en programas como "La guerra de las magdalenas", donde se comparan distintos restaurantes o tiendas donde se hacen "cupcakes", son unos dulces que tienen forma de magdalena pero pueden llevar cualquier cosa por encima y estar hechas con una gran variedad de ingredientes. En el programa de hoy han mostrado cupcakes con chocolate y bacon...no comments :)
There are other programs that are just fun in my opinion and I think they sometimes show exaggerated things. You can see this for example in "Cupcake wars". Today chocolate cupcakes with bacon topping...no comments :)

Un programa que puede ser interesante es "Lo mejor que he comido..." y los puntos suspensivos pueden ser cualquier cosa: cocido, frito, en trozos, con tomate, en un bar, en un puesto ambulante, etc. Con este programa se ven cosas curiosas, pero al menos se mueven por varias ciudades y enseñan sitios que podria ser interesante ir.
An interesting program is "The best thing I've ever eaten...". The three dots can be replaced by whatever you want: boiled, fried, sliced, with tomato, in a deli, etc. This is curious and they show places to go in many cities and I believe it can be interesting.

Otro que me parece exagerado es "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives". Guy Fieri visita sitios a todo lo largo y ancho del pais, eso si, hasta el momento todos los sitios que he visto han preparado cosas gigantes y con millones de ingredientes. Normalmente muestran como se prepara la comida para mucha gente y claro, las cantidades que se usan son enormes. Los platos suelen tener muchas especias, azucar casi siempre y grasa...tambien :)
"Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" is also exaggerated. Guy Fieri visits many places all over the country, but he only goes to places where the portions are huge and the meals are cooked with one million ingredients. They show how some dishes are prepared in big scales and it is amazing to see the big amounts of ingredients they use. The dishes normally have many spices, sugar and fat...also :)

Dentro de esta categoria de exagerados tambien se encuentra "Man vs food" en el "Travel channel". El presentador visita restaurantes donde hay desafios, es decir, tiene que comer un plato especial de la casa y si lo consigue, se lleva un premio y ademas, su nombre aparece en la "pared del honor" :). Normalmente, estos platos especiales son gigantes, mega picantes o ambos, jeje! Algunos ejemplos son filetes de casi 2 kilos, burritos de 2 kilos, sandwiches de 1 metro y cosas asi...
Inside the category of "exaggerated stuff" we also find "Man vs food" in the "Travel channel". The presenter visits restaurants where you can win a challenge consisting on eating the special dish of the house, normally something huge, spicy or both. Some examples are 4 pound rib-eyes, 4 pound burritos, 1 meter sandwiches, etc...

Mas o menos eso es todo lo que os queria contar, por supuesto hay otros programas que no se quedan cortos y que no son sobre comida. Hay programas que muestran las adicciones de gente y como se curan, un programa especial para gente con sindrome de Diogenes...en fin, sorprendente!
"Wife swap", el español "me cambio de familia" es de mis favoritos, jeje! siempre hay una madre de campo que tiene cabras o vacas que se cambia por la tipica pijita de ciudad :)
Los programas sobre bandas callejeras y sobre las 48 primeras horas despues de un crimen tambien me gustan :)
This is more or less everything I wanted to tell you. There are other programs that are not about food and are also surprising as the programs about people's addictions, a special program for people with Diogenes syndrome, etc...surprising!
"Wife swap" is one of my favorites. There is always a mother used to work in the land with animals, goats, cows, etc and another mother who comes from the city and is posh and picky.
The programs about "street gangs" or the first 48 hours after a crime are also pretty interesting :)

Normalmente hay predicadores soltando unos rollos que no se como la gente los aguanta, jeje! pero mas que aguantar, la gente esta en extasis, vibrando con las palabras del predicador...amazing!
Finally, I couldn't leave without telling you about one of the "best channels: "Pray my Lord"...
There is normally a preacher talking for hours and sincerely, I don't know how people can stand it for so long :), but they are like in an "extasis" state of mind, flying to another dimension while listening to the preacher's words...amazing!

Dear friends from all over the world :) it is already the last day of the year and it looks like if we had to stop a little bit and think some minutes about how the year was :)
El año pasado, en este mismo dia, solo estaba pensando en que el proximo año, es decir, 2010 todo habria cambiado...y estaba super impaciente por saber como seria todo. Ahora aqui estoy, mirando como ha ido todo y pensando en todo lo que queda por venir.
Last year at this same time I was just thinking of how 2010 was going to be. I was about to have one of the biggest changes of my life and I was incredibly impatient to know. Here I am now, looking back and thinking there is still a lot more to come in the future.
Este ha sido el año de tesis, estar en Holanda, volver a España, arreglar absolutamente todo para irnos a Chicago, dejar nuestro piso holandes, volar miles de kilometros, terminar todo el trabajo de un laboratorio, llegar a otro, decir adios a nuestras familias y amigos...muchas cosas, muchas...
It's been a thesis year, living in Holland, come back to Spain, arrange everything to go to Chicago, leave our Dutch apartment, fly thousands of kilometers, finish all the work in one lab, start in another one, say goodbye to our friends and family...many things...
El momento clave fue el cambiarme de continente, me costo tanto esfuerzo y me estreso tanto que no me podia creer que ese momento hubiese llegado.
Dejar la casa de Holanda, estar a la espera de las becas, ver que la visa no llega, ayyyy!! todo ha pasado y ahora queda pensar en mas viajes, mas tiempo de estar separados de la familia y en como sera el futuro, pero en estos momentos solo me apetece ser positiva y pensar que al final de todo saldremos :)
The key moment of the year was changing of continent, not only country, hehe! it took me so much effort and stress that I couldn't believe the moment of leaving had arrived.
Leaving the Dutch house, with all our memories, waiting for the postdoctoral grants results, waiting for the visa!! now everything is finished and I'm still thinking of more trips, more time far from my family and how the future is going to be, but at this moment I don't want to be negative and I'm sure everything will be fine :)
Este año hemos vivido muchas emociones a nivel globa, jeje! que hemos ganado el mundial de futbol!! por ejemplo, pero la familia y amigos tambien nos han dado muchas alegrias ;)
Mari Loli, va a tener un niño muy prontito, asi que imaginaos si todo esto es especial :), muchos amigos han comprado sus nuevas casas, han terminado sus carreras, han tenido sobrinos, nuevos trabajos, otros han encontrado el amor...de todo!!
We have lived many emotional things this year. Spain won the world cup, uohhhh!!! but of course, family and friends also brought us many cheerful news :)
My friend Mari Loli is becoming a mother in about one month, so this year was really special for her and for all of us, some of my friends bought their future house, some finished their studies, some have found love...everything!!

Jamon!!

Una de las cosas comestibles que mas he echado de menos durante estos meses, ha sido sin duda el jamon!!! Lo cierto es que no soy una fanatica de la carne, pero un buen jamon es lo mejor del mundo :) Un buen jamon, puede ser tan delicioso! de verdad que lo echaba de menos y le pedi a mi madre que tuviese un buen jamon preparado para mi visita navideña, jeje!
One of the things I've missed the most during these months in USA is jamon!!! I'm not a big fan of meat, but jamon is the best thing ever :) I love it!! If it is good ham, it can be sooo delicious! I really missed it and I asked my mother to have one ready for my visit, hehe!

El mismo dia que llegue a casa (completamente muerta), sali por la tarde con mis padres a una tienda llamada "El reino iberico". Alli compramos lomo y otros embutidos ibericos, pero no compramos el jamon. Eso si, hice muchas fotos!! jeje!
The day I arrived home (completely destroyed) I went shopping with my parents. We were finishing with the last details for Christmas eve dinner. We went to a shop called "The Iberian kingdom (El reino iberico)". We bought different kinds of Iberian sausages, but we didn't buy ham there. I took many pictures there!

En Chicago he comprado muchos productos españoles y en especial manchegos, pero de momento no he encontrado jamon en los supemercados o tiendas donde compro normalmente, aunque seguire explorando :)
I've bought many Spanish products in Chicago, also from Castilla - La Mancha such as manchego cheese, but I still didn't find ham in the stores I usually buy. I'll keep on exploring :)

Primero en la tienda, despues los tenderos cortando, el jamon que tenemos en mi casa, mi madre cortando el jamon...en fin! muchas cosas! para todos mis amigos españoles esto es muy normal, pero estando ahora en España tengo que compartir mis experiencias con el resto de mis amigos :)
You can see here some of the jamon pictures I've taken here: at the shop, cutting the ham, the one we have at home, my mother cutting it, etc. I guess it is something completely normal for all my Spanish friends, but I also want to share it with the rest of my non-Spanish friends :)

Nuestra cena esta casi preparada, pulpo a la vinagreta, salmon, foie, jamon y otros embutidos ibericos, queso manchego y chuletillas de cordero, prometo fotos pronto :)

En casa. At home

Hola!! Despues de mi ultimo texto, tenia que contar que tal fue mi experiencia durante el viaje a casa :)
Como sabeis el viaje me habia creado bastante estres, jeje! y lo mismo me pasara cuando tenga que volver, pero como siempre, todo fue mucho mejor de lo que yo pensaba.
Llegue con bastante tiempo al aeropuerto, no habia mucha cola con lo que pase los controles de seguridad sin problemas. Hasta aqui me acompaño Thomas :) y despues de aqui...ya solita!
Todo estaba tranquilo en la terminal, movimiento de gente yendo y viniendo, pero sin complicaciones. En mi puerta de embarque habia mucha gente española, muchos de ellos postdocs que volvian a casa por Navidad, jeje!
Hi!! After my last post, I had to tell you how was my flight going back home ;). As you know I was very stressed thinking about the trip, hehe! and I'm sure it'll be the same when I have to fly to Chicago again, but it went a lot better than I thought.
I arrived on time to the airport, the lines were not too long and I passed all the controls successfully. Thomas was with me all the time until I went through the controls :) and after that I continued alone.
Everything was quiet and normal at the terminal, people going here and there, no problems. I met many Spanish people at the boarding gate, many of them were postdocs :) going back home for Christmas.


El avion llego a tiempo y como todo el mundo tiene sus asientos asignados, no hay prisas, colas, empujones ni nada, como pasa en el caso de los vuelos de Ryanair. Mi sitio estaba un poco lejos de la pantalla para ver las pelis, la siguiente pantalla estaba justo encima de mi cabeza :)
The plane arrived on time and since everyone had assigned seats no one had to race to reach their seats as it happens in the Ryanair planes. My seat was a bit too far from the screen to watch movies and the next one was just on top of my head :).

El avion tenia muy buena pinta, aunque los asientos no eran tan comodos como los del avion de Air Lingus. Tampoco teniamos pantalla tactil individual, como en el anterior, aunque tambien habia pantallas para ver las peliculas y muchisimos canales de musica. La ruta que seguimos fue: Chicago-Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec-Santiago de Compostela-Madrid, 7 horas y 45 minutos.
The plain was incredible, even though the seats were not as comfortable as the seats of Air Lingus. We didn't have individual touch screen as in the previous plain, but we also had screens to watch some movies and also, many music channels. The route was: Chicago-Toronto-Ottawa-Montreal-Quebec-Santiago de Compostela-Madrid, 7 hours and 45 minutes.
La cena se sirvio despues de una hora de vuelo y la comida era bastante buena para ser comida de avion, jeje! despues una peli y al final del vuelo el desayuno :)
Tuve mucha suerte de tener un buen compañero de viaje. Conoci a un chico venezolano que estudiaba en Boston, tenia su portatil y una pelicula "Malditos bastardos", ya la habia visto, pero dura mas de dos horas y es genial para pasar el tiempo en el avion.
Dinner was served after one hour and the food was pretty good, considering it was in a plain :) after that there was a movie and we also had breakfast at the end of the flight :)
I was very lucky I had a nice flight partner, hehe! I met a guy from Venezuela who was studying in Boston. He let me watch "Inglorious basterds" with his laptop and we talked for almost the 8 hours of flight. Thanks to him time went by faster.
Aunque en ocasiones el vuelo se hizo muy pesado, todo salio estupendamente. Aterrizamos a tiempo en la T4 de Barajas y despues de casi 20 minutos de camino, pude encontrar la cinta para recoger mi maleta que contenia rollitos de canela, agujeros de donut, "scones" y una tarta de calabaza entre otras cosas :).
Entonces fue cuando empezo mi jet lag gigante!!! Eran la 1 am de Chicago, 8 am de Madrid, pero en vez de irme a la cama, el dia empezaba otra vez!!! ay!!!
Even though the flight was heavy everything was perfect. We landed in Madrid on time and after 20 minutes walking I could find the belt to pick my suitcase up (with cinnamon rolls, donut holes, coffee scones and pumpkin pie) :)
It was then when my huge jet lag started!! It was 1 am in Chicago and 8 am in Madrid, but instead of going to bed, the day was starting!! aahhh!!
Aun me quedaba coger el tren para llegar a mi casa, otros 15 minutos en taxi y 50 de tren, pero bueno ya estaba casi en casa con mis padres. Ellos me esperaban en la estacion y por supuesto, me puse a llorar cuando les vi :)
I still had to take the train to go home. 15 minutes of taxi and 50 minutes by train, but I was almost home with my parents. They were waiting for me at the train station and of course, I started crying when I saw them :)
Los primeros dias estaban empezando, jeje! mi jet lag me ha estado matando durante tres dias y lo contare en otro texto, pero ademas estoy disfrutando de buena comida, de calidad, buen precio y lo mejor, mis amigos y lo mejor, de lo mejor: mi familia :)
The first day was starting, hehe! my big jet lag has been killing me for 3 days and I'll write about it in the next post, but the most important thing is I'm enjoying Spain, good food, people, my friends and the best thing: my family :)
